my love affair with circle lenses: photographic evidence of my dearly departed lenses

Very, very long wait for the continuation to my previous post on circle lenses. In September of 2010 I took the plunge and bought my first pair of circle lenses. There are soooooo many different varieties to choose from. You have different brands, different colors, different patterns, different diamaters...it can be very overwhelming. Lenses aren't going to look on the same everyone, especially since they're manufactured for consumers who have darker eyes. It's been a journey to see what looks best with my own eyes!

I should preface this entire post by giving you a disclaimer in the fact that I'm pretty boring when it comes to lenses. I don't like crazy and outrageous colors and patterns, and tend to favor lenses that will compliment my medium brown eyes. As I mentioned before, circle lenses are mostly worn in Asian countries. In my trials with these lenses, I've learned that many lenses look best on a dark eye. I've purchased lenses, thinking they would look so amazing, but it turned out that my brown eyes were too light to see some of the patterns! They just look bigger and muddy, but not as cool as I was hoping they'd be :(

For example, many lenses give me the appearance of having a peep hole in my eyes. Which I don't like. When your eyes are dilated in low light you don't notice it as much, but if you're inside with bright lights you can normally see parts of your iris (in my case the brown part) in the small pupil hole. The darker your eyes are, the less noticeable this is, but it's always been something that bothers me when I'm wearing lenses.

Here's my "peep hole" with a pair of Fresh Look color contacts. Regular color contacts usually look fine because they tend to have a translucent color towards the edge, so it's not so obvious. With that out of the way, it helps to better describe why I prefer one lens over another, though they might have the same color and similar patterns. I try to avoid that scary vacant stare at all costs.

Now on to the lenses!

Geo Hurricane Brown

These arrived when I was in the process of going blonde, so I had orange hair. There are actually two brown hurricane colors to choose from, one being the regular dark brown and a lighter shade that is now referred to as hazel. These were newly produced lenses when I ordered them, so they were just Brown HC-104 (Brown) and Brown HC-106 (Hazel) at the time of purchase. I ended up ordering the Hazel pair, thinking that they were the lighter of the two. Nope. They were the dark pair, and when I first tried them on, I did not recognize the person looking back at me. I looked strange. It probably had a lot more to do with the unflattering shade of my hair, than the lenses. Regardless, they went back to their case and I didn't touch them again for two weeks. At this point I was now platinum blonde and wanted to revisit these awful lenses. To my surprise, I actually liked the face that was looking back at me!

Now that my hair was where it needed to be I could finally appreciate these lenses for doing what they were suppose to do: make me look like a doll. And I felt like one! I really liked these lenses because they blended extremely well with my own eye color, they were slightly enlarging and there was no peep hole.

Despite being content with my other lenses, I wanted to find a pair of more natural lenses that I could wear every day without getting a second look from strangers. These were on sale, so I snagged them for $7 each. I didn't wear these much at all, and have hardly any pictures of them for that same reason. They have that dreaded peep hole! On the plus side, these are made by EOS so they were very comfortable.

EOS Max Pure Pink

I loooooooooooooove these lenses. Up until now I was afraid to go any bigger than 14.2mm which is slightly larger than the size of my own iris, and these lenses are 14.5mm. I'd seen pictures of these lenses on other people and they looked so beautiful, I had to get my own pair! I was in love. I hope they never stop producing these lenses, I love them that much! They don't look SCARY big, they're pretty translucent so they do a fantastic job at blending with my own eyes and there's no peep hole as the design has a wider diameter to print on. Love Love Love.

I also had the green pair, but didn't wear those as much :/

Geo Honey Wings

I wanted another brown pair of lenses, and fell in love with how they looked on people in the pictures I'd seen. This is when I realized that my eyes were too light for certain lenses. They're supposed to create an appearance of a "halo" or a very faint light brown outline around the iris. But these lenses were the exact color of my own eyes, so I got no halo! Only slight enlargement but I was very disappointed.

Neo Cosmo Glamour Gray

These were the most natural pair of lenses I'd ordered to date, and probably still are. BUT THEY WERE SO UNCOMFORTABLE! Neo Cosmo lenses are supposed to be highly superior in terms of comfort among the different brands, so it was very unfortunate that I didn't like these as much as everyone else. It could possibly be, that the lenses I ordered were so uncomfortable because they were the 3 month disposable pair. The regular lenses can be worn for up to a year before they expire. I'm still waiting to try those.

Geo Nudy Golden Blue

I loved these! Not natural in the least, as it gives off a bit of a reptilian vibe but the colors are so pretty! Translucent blue, yellow and gray. Unfortunately, I only wore these a few times as my eyes had grown accustomed to the comfort of other lens brands by the time I finally got around to purchasing these.

Geo Nudy Pink

I also had them in pink! I probably wore these a few more times before the lenses became too dry for my liking. I tried to wear them a couple times before their expiration date came to, but it was hopeless.

Geo Nudy Gray

These did not suit me at all. Too dark for my eyes.

Finally reached the end of this post. All of the photos above are of lenses that I no longer have in my possession, or lenses that I tried and disposed of. I just wanted a space to archive my experiences with them.
